Chiara Camoni

Swarms (Sciami) by Chiara Camoni is a site specific intervention created on the rooftop of the Grattacielo della Regione Piemonte (Piedmont Region skyscaper) in Turin, on the 43rd floor. The work originates from the artist’s desire to introduce unexpected elements into the building’s strict verticality: disco lights and scenic objects such as mirrored spheres that, moving and changing color, create luminous swarms, rotating and dancing all night to the “rhythm of music that cannot be heard.” The top of the skyscaper thus becomes populated with lights reminiscent of insect movements, perhaps fireflies - enigmatic flying creatures. A suspended image, accessible only through sight—both up close and from afar—visible for kilometers, from the southern entrance of Turin along Corso Moncalieri to the city center and the surrounding hills. The skyscaper transforms into a stage where nature, evoked through light, seems to overpower humanity.

Chiara Camoni’s artistic practice encompasses drawing, video, and sculpture, with a particular focus on terracotta, natural materials, and everyday objects. The dimension of festivity and play is also central, as evidenced by Disco Tornio - a performative work that combines the artisanal gesture of the potter’s wheel with disco atmospheres, transforming collective creation into an act of dance and sharing. Chiara Camoni has exhibited in prestigious Italian and international institutions, including Pirelli HangarBicocca (Milan, 2024), and has participated in prominent events such as Manifesta 15 (Barcelona, 2024). In 2026, the artist will represent Italy at the Venice Biennale, an acknowledgment that underscores the significance of her practice within the contemporary art landscape.
