Marinella Senatore

The artwork Assembly by Marinella Senatore was acquired by the Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude in 2022, thanks to the support of PAC 2021, the Contemporary Art Scheme by the Direzione Generale Creatività of the Ministero della Cultura.

The great light installation draws inspiration from South Italy's traditional illuminations and evokes Baroque festivals with their spectacular ephemeral displays, which the artist reinterprets by placing the community and the transformative power of art and participation at the centre. In Senatore’s reinterpretation, these architectures become «relational spaces» through the inclusion of quotations and illuminated inscriptions bearing poetic and political statements: «ephemeral architectural structures» capable of constructing the idea of a ‘universal’ square», «spaces for socialising where people come together», great light sculptures transformed into «monuments to people, here and now».

Light is a central element of Senatore’s artistic practice: a material that reshapes space and creates the conditions for encounter, participation and collective experience. As Senatore explains: «light sculptures are generators of energy which, in the form of beams of light, propagate through space, transforming it and altering its structures as well as the individuals within it.»

The work, comprising two elements, made from LED bulbs mounted on a wooden and metal frame, is designed to ensure low and sustainable energy consumption.

Assembly’s new exhibition in the Corte d’onore at the Reggia di Venaria is taking place as part of IMMAGINARIA 2026, a public art project dedicated in this edition to the theme of peaceful coexistence, co-produced by Città di Venaria Reale, Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude, Fondazione Via Maestra.
